The film Reportero took place in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Tijuana is a border city in Mexico, just south of California. The Documentary film director Bernardo Ruiz wanted this film to reach the American audience to showcase the side of Mexico many others refuse to show. He wants to highlight the work of people who have been ignored and largely neglected in the international circle. The journalists of Zeta are working with a degree of integrity and was doing work under very difficult circumstances in creating democracy. The importance of this films distribution is the bravery. A lot of the journalists who worked with Zeta came along because they wanted to contribute to a writing piece that was important, which resulted in Jesus Blancornelas starting Zeta. They wanted to create their own newspaper owned by journalists, free from any corporate, union or political interests. They wanted to maintain their freedom of speech and print pieces that mattered in hopes of gaining more success to hopefully encourage more protection and change within Mexico. Reportero gave insight to their world and is finally receiving recognition.
